About Lufthansa Star Chef, Surender Mohan:
Chef Surender Mohan has over sixteen years of
experience in the art of Indian cuisine. After completing a three year
apprenticeship in Food Production from New Delhi, he started a long and
brilliant journey in a leading hotel in the city where he gained experience
managing the quotidian operations, creating menus and handling the training
of the staff. In July 2001, he came on board The Leela Palace Bangalore in
time for the pre-opening of the Indian specialty restaurant, Jamavar.
Shortly after, he joined the team at The Leela Mumbai as the Corporate Sous
Chef – Indian cuisine, where in he is responsible for managing the Indian
cuisine of the entire hotel – Jamavar, Citrus (Indian Section), Private
Dining, 6° Bar and Lobby Lounge.
A chef par excellence, Surender Mohan has also received various accolades
through his career and has been actively involved in various national and
international promotions. Some of his achievements include: Participation in
the preparation of the longest Doora Kebab of 105 feet at the Cafe in The
Hyatt Regency Delhi, Gold medal in 'China International Culinary Art Master
Challenge' at China International Gourmet Expo 2004 and most recently, he
was pronounced a Star Chef by Lufthansa Airways for planning and preparing a
menu from the kitchens of Jamavar, the Indian specialty restaurant at The
Leela, for passengers traveling between India and Germany.
Chef Surender Mohan is also responsible for conducting various Indian
Regional Food Promotions in all the hotels that he has worked for, and has
organized and prepared the entire Menu for the former US President, Mr. Bill
Clinton, during his stay at The Leela Goa in February 2006.
Surender Mohan's joi de vivre reflects like a mirror image on his culinary
palate. For him, India is his teacher and its ancient kitchens are his
classrooms. His eclectic clientele across the globe consider him a true
ambassador of India. However, his milestone moment was when Mr. Bill Clinton
during his stay at The Leela Goa told him, "I will come back for more."
