CHANA NI DAL  MA GOSHT or CHANA NI DAL MA MURGHI
       
         INGREDIENTS:
         Serves 4
         
         2 1/2 lb any meat. cut into pieces
         3 large onions, finely sliced
         10 ozs chana dal, yellow, wash and soak in
         cold water at least 2 hrs
         1 1/2 tsp chilli powder
         2 tsp dhanajeera
         2 tsp salt
         1 tsp turmeric
         1 1/2 tsp cummin powder
         2 tsp heaped sambhar
         1 tsp garlic paste
         1 tsp ginger paste
         2 tomatoes
         1/2 bunch coriander
         3 green chillies, slit
         3 raw green mangoes, in season
         
         
         Fry the sliced onions till golden brown. Add in all the
         spices and cook gently for a few minutes. Add in the
         pieces of meat, cook, stirring occasionally, then the
         chopped tomatoes. Mix in the dal, draining off the
         water it has been soaked in, and stir so that the meat, masala and
         dal are well mixed. Add sliced mangoes and chillies. Put enough
         water to let the dal and meat cook, cover and place in the oven
         on 350 degrees for approx 1 1/2 hours or till it is all cooked. Before
         serving add lemon juice, if mangoes are not available, and
         chopped coriander.
         
         Serve with Kuchumbar and hot rotlies.
