With only a day to go, preparations are well underway for the royal wedding. And one crucial part of the big day has to be Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding cake.
It was announced back in March that Harry and Meghan had selected pastry chef Claire Ptak of London-based bakery, Violet Cakes, to make their wedding cake.
It was even revealed via Kensington Palace that “Prince Harry and Ms. Markle have asked Claire to create a lemon elderflower cake that will incorporate the bright flavours of spring. It will be covered with buttercream and decorated with fresh flowers.”
And now, Meghan and Harry’s wedding cake is finally being made:
With its multiple sponge layers, and covered in buttercream, the royal wedding cake looks simple and elegant. Scattered around the kitchen are clues as to what the finished article will look like. From dozens of roses, to bowls of lemons, it’s clear that the color scheme is inspired by spring.
Specifically, it was the fact that Ptak uses “seasonal and organic ingredients in her cakes” that made her a great fit for the health-conscious couple, plus Markle had previously featured the chef on her now-defunct lifestyle website, The Tig.
