Pune’s Kayani Bakery to reopen

BACK IN BUSINESS:

Rustom Kayani, one of the owners of Pune’s iconic Kayani Bakery, conducts prayers before the wood-fired furnace that bakes the outlet’s famous Shrewsbury biscuits. The establishment will reopen on Saturday after being shut for 45 days following verbal orders for closure from the Pune Cantonment Board over the issue of trade licence. A Pune district court on Friday refused to grant a stay on the joint civil judge senior division’s interim injunction order of November 17 that restrained the board from “obstructing business” or “forceful closure” of the bakery. The court has posted the PCB’s appeal for a hearing to December 8. “The bakery can now open with immediate effect,” said Kayani’s lawyer Dara Irani
