Cooking Class: Patra ni Maachi

A live demo with ZAGNY for making the classic Parsi Delight. Served at weddings and feasts, this chutney fish is wrapped in aromatic banana leaves or parchment paper. If you you prefer – just baked without any wrapping!

Traditional Fish with Banana Leaves.
(Patra means Leaf, Maachi means Fish. )


Gluten free
In their natural state, fish are completely free of gluten.
Go ahead and enjoy your “Patra ni Maachi”
But No Bread, Rotli and Naan since they are not gluten free.

RECIPE Cooking Class: Patra ni Maachi
Ingredients
1 cup fresh coriander leaves
1/2 cup fresh mint leaves
5 peeled garlic cloves
5 tsp coconut fresh or frozen
1 tsp fresh chopped green chilies
1 tsp roasted cumin seeds
2 tsp raw mango optional
1 tsp lemon juice
Pinch of salt and sugar
Grind all of these in a blender into a chutney
Method
Clean Fish & Banana Leaves.
Fill Instant Pot with 2 inches of water.
Place each fillet on a Banana leaf with chutney on top & bottom.
Wrap and tie with string, each packet.
Lightly fry in hot oil in non-stick pan each banana packet
(No need to fry if using parchment paper)
Instant Pot: Steam for 15 minutes on a steamer rack.
Oven: Bake chutney + fish uncovered for 15 minutes

The bright green color of leaves will change to a dull green.
